St.Patrick's Day
What a great date we chose for our trip! Did you realize our first day in Dublin is going to be St. Patrick's Day! I'm very much looking forward to watching the great parade and the fireworks.

Note to the administrator ...
Fipps
could you also set up a categories/labels archive in the navigation bar? We forgot about it today, I think it would make sense to have one. Thanks!

Note from the 'Instructor' ...
It was fun working with you today! I think you did a really good job making the blog look good already, and I can see it as a good resource for information and communication about your trip!
Two things: Be careful with the labeling, because this will keep it organized, and you can find things easier. And: On the trip, also try to post your own photos - we forgot to talk about that today. You have to downsize them to a width of around 500 points when you download them to the computer, so they fit. Have fun!

GPO General Post office
HeY
as you know .. everybody has to report on one MONUMENT in Ireland ...
and I´ve got GPO in Dublin.... here are some informations ... :)
GPO - General Post Office In Dublin
Built in 1818 halfway along O'Connell Street (formerly Sackville street),
the GPO (right) became a symbol of the 1916 Easter Rising. Members of the Irish Volunteers and Irish Citizen Army seized the building on Easter Monday (24th of April) and Patrick Pearse read out the Proclamation of the Irish republic from its steps. The rebels remained inside for almost a week, but shelling from the British eventually forced them out. Inside the building is a sculpture of the legendary Irish warrior Cuchulainn, dedicated to those who died for their part in the Easter rising.

My Goodness, My Guinness!!
Guinness is a dark and dry beer also called "liquid bread". But it has only 198 clories. Guinness originated in Arthur Guinness's St. James's Gate Brewery in Dublin. The band Dropkick Murphys wrote a song called "Good Rats" about a rumor regarding the Guinness brewery of how rats were found once when cleaning the vats. Then, after the vats were sterilized, people weren't impressed with the taste because supposedly the rats gave it an extra kick.
I like the taste of rats and so i like Guinness^^. Guinness stout is available in a number of variants and strengths but not all are so good like the good old "Guinness Draught".
Grand Canal
I want to tell you something about the great, great Grand Canal of Ireland.
It`s Ireland`s longest River, was built in the 18th century and connect Dublin to the Shannon River.

Ha´Penny Bridge
The Ha'penny Bridge (known later for a time as the Penny Ha'penny Bridge) is a pedestrian bridge built in 1816 over the River Liffey in Dublin, Ireland.
Before the Ha'penny Bridge had been built there were seven ferries that operated from one side of the Liffey to the other. But the ferries were in bad conditions so William Walsh got assigned to build a bridge. He called the bridge Ha´Penny bridge, because everyone who wanted to cross the bridge had to pay 1 Penny.
Originally the bridge was made of cast iron, but it had begun to rust badly.
From 2001 to 2003 the bridge was closed for repair and renovations.
Now it´s colour has changed from black to white.
Glendalough
Hey!
On our ireland-trip we'll go to "Glendalough", too. So I've been looking for some information about Glendalough.
Glendalough, which means "glen of two lakes", is a village located in Country Wicklow. There I'll give my preparation on "High Crosses".
